I love Easter – especially Easter Sunday. We always go to church and usually have a few Easter egg hunts with the boys in the weeks leading up to Easter Sunday. While your outfit certainly isn’t the main event on Easter, I think it’s special to get a new dress each year. I remember it was always a big deal picking out my Easter dress as a little girl and I still look forward to it even at age 40! So, I’ve sourced some beautiful options below that will work for Easter and beyond in the spring and summer months. And if you’re heading to an Easter church service for the first time in a long time (or ever), I’ve got you covered in terms of what to wear, what to avoid, and a few of my favorite picks.

What to wear on Easter Sunday (and for Easter Egg Hunts & Easter Brunch)

What do people wear at Easter?

In general, people tend to dress up for Easter and embrace spring style, even if it’s still a little chilly out. You’ll see a lot of floral dresses, pastel tones, or white outfits. Dresses with ruffles, lace, or soft pleats are popular choices. And layering lightweight jackets like a tweed jacket or a tailored blazer can be helpful if the weather is a bit chilly (since Easter is so late this year–April 20th– I’m hoping we won’t need jackets!). If you prefer separates, a blouse paired with a flowy skirt or white jeans can make for a chic and effortless Easter outfit.

What Not to Wear on Easter Sunday

There are, however, a few things to avoid. Dark, heavy fabrics can feel out of place, and overly revealing outfits aren’t appropriate for more formal gatherings or church services. And they also don’t lend themselves very naturally to spring weather anyway. Also, while sneakers can be a comfortable option for egg hunts or casual brunches, avoid overly worn or athletic sneakers. It’s always better to be overdressed than underdressed when it comes to Easter.

How Should I Dress for Easter?

Your Easter outfit should reflect your style while keeping reverence, comfort, and occasion in mind. If you’re attending a formal church service, opt for a knee-length or midi dress with classic detailing like lace or ruffles. A flowy maxi dress or a chic skirt with a tucked-in blouse will work perfectly for a casual Easter brunch or an outdoor gathering.

What Color Should I Wear on Easter Sunday?

Pastel shades such as soft pink, lavender, mint green, and baby blue are traditional Easter colors. White and cream tones also work beautifully, especially with delicate lace details. Floral prints in soft hues are a timeless Easter favorite. If you prefer bolder colors, opt for cheerful tones like coral or yellow.

What to Wear for Easter Church Services

For church services on Easter, opt for a modest and conservative outfit, keeping in mind that different churches have various dress codes. (Read more tips about what to wear to church in this post.) If you aren’t sure, a knee-length or midi dress in a pastel shade or a floral print is a safe bet. I love this Aria Maxi Dress from Briton Court and this fun Pineapple Print Scalloped Edge Shirt Dress as two cute dress options. A blazer or a cardigan can provide a polished finish, especially in cooler weather – this Gabrielle Convertible Box Jacket screams Easter in such a cute pink.

White pants paired with a sophisticated blouse also make a chic alternative – here’s a blog post with my favorite white jeans for spring. Choose closed-toe shoes like ballet flats or low heels for a more refined appearance, or wear a flattering pair of sandals. Showing your toes is fine; you just want to be sure your shoes are classy. This pair of Stacy heels from Target is a great, tasteful option.

What to Wear for Easter Brunch

Easter brunch is the perfect occasion to wear something stylish yet comfortable. A flowy midi dress with ruffles (maybe the Aria Maxi Dress from Briton Court dress I linked above) or a wrap-style dress in a cheerful print is always a great choice. Layering with a lightweight cardigan (here’s how to style cardigans) or a cropped blazer adds a touch of sophistication. If you prefer separates, a chic blouse tucked into a skirt or high-waisted white pants creates an effortlessly elegant look. Pair with espadrilles or block heels (this pair from Target is my favorite) for a brunch-ready outfit.

While I like to wear dresses for church services, I’ll likely wear something like this blazer and denim look for casual brunch with our family after church. I’d likely do white jeans rather than blue, but either will work. The pink blazer is this Gabrielle Convertible Box Jacket, and these jeans are from Quince – the fit is PERFECT.

What to Wear for an Easter Egg Hunt

Comfort is key for an Easter egg hunt, especially if you’re chasing after little ones! A casual Easter outfit is perfect, like a breezy sundress with a denim jacket. If you prefer pants, white jeans (see my favorite white jeans here) with a pastel blouse works well. I love this Pink and Green Print Logan Shirt. Fashion sneakers like Vejas or comfortable flats (maybe these Bleached Beechwood Michaela Flats) are cute and practical. You can also pair sneakers with a dress. Don’t forget a sunhat, non-toxic sunscreen or sunglasses if you’ll be outdoors. My favorite affordable sunglasses are this tortoise pair from Amazon.

    Easter Dresses

While I’ve shared a few of my favorite dresses in the paragraphs above, I wanted to include a few more for those who are shopping. Here are some general ideas if you want to look in your closet, and I’ll include my personal favorites below.

    • Floral Midi Dresses – Feminine and timeless, perfect for church services or brunch.
    • Ruffled Maxi Dresses – Elegant yet comfortable, great for outdoor gatherings.
    • Pastel Wrap Dresses – Flattering and chic for any Easter occasion.
    • Lace Fit-and-Flare Dresses – A classic choice for a polished Easter look.
    • Sleeveless A-Line Dresses – Lightweight and ideal for warmer weather.
    Tuckernuck Chloe Dress

I have this Chloe Dress in a perfect lavender color, and it’s the ideal Easter dress. I feel like Jackie O whenever I put it on and get so many compliments. It has a polished silhouette, the perfect thick material, and a great midi length. If you want the same look for less, this Amazon Tuckernuck look for less is perfect.

    Briton Court Aria Maxi Dress

This Aria Maxi Dress is currently at the top of my list for Easter dresses. The length is my favorite (maxi), and the deep green tones feel like such good colors to wear into the early spring if you buy it now. I have a size small and it fits well, but I do think an XS would be ideal.

Sail to Sable Pineapple Print Scalloped Edge Shirt Dress

This Pineapple Print Scalloped Edge Shirt Dress was sent to me recently, and as soon as I put it on, I knew it would be perfect for Easter. I love the frilly collar, ruffle sleeves, mini length, and subtle floral/pineapple print. I have a size XS. If you’re breastfeeding, this dress will work well since the buttons open at the top.

    Pink Embroidery Eliza Midi Dress

This Pink Embroidery Eliza Midi Dress is a great Easter option. The smocked puff sleeves and stand collar are calling my name – and so is the midi length. While I’m almost always drawn to pink, I do love the green option as well.

    Chambray Lyles Dress

I own this Lyles dress in red (I got it for fall family photos), and the fit is perfect for everything. The material isn’t super thick, but it’s also not thin. Maxi dresses can swallow my petite frame, but this fits perfectly. I went with an XS since I knew the fit was relaxed. I recommend sizing down if you’re on the fence. Since the belt is removable, it works for maternity as well.

    Tweed Jackie Dress

I love this Tweed Jackie Dress for Easter. It’s polished, and it comes in a ton of colors. I love the braided trim and button details! It’d be perfect with kitten heels or ballet flats.

Hill House Home Ellie Nap Dress

There’s no dress on earth that fits as perfectly in every life stage as Hill House. I got my first Hill House dress when I was postpartum with Charles, and it was one of the first things I put on that made me feel like myself. The smocking is secure and flattering, the midi length is easy to wear around kids, and it comes in ton of colors. Hill House runs true to size. Quince also makes a look for less that’s really good. Read my Hill House dress review here.

    Casual Easter Outfits

Not a fan of dresses? No problem! There are plenty of casual Easter outfit ideas that are just as stylish:

    • White Jeans + Pastel Blouse – A classic, polished look that’s perfect for brunch or an egg hunt.
    • Skirt + Lightweight Sweater – A flowy midi skirt paired with a soft knit sweater is effortlessly chic.
    • Jumpsuit + Denim Jacket – A stylish alternative to dresses, especially in a floral or pastel print.
    • Casual Dress + Sneakers – Keep it relaxed with a breezy dress and comfy sneakers for a laid-back Easter vibe.
    White Tweed Campbell Romper

This White Tweed Campbell Romper would be the cutest option for a children’s Easter egg hunt. I love a romper for practicality, and this tweed option is polished and so classic. I’d style it with cute sneakers like these Momentum Pink Multi sneakers from Steve Madden.

Pink Tweed Annabelle Top and Skirt Set

Similar to the romper, but two separate pieces. Try the Pink Tweed Annabelle Top here and the matching skirt here! You could definitely wear this to church, but it would also be cute for egg hunts and brunch. I’d stick to a pair of ballet flats since the skirt is short.

    Green Floral Giada Maxi Skirt

I love wearing skirts as someone who’s nursing. This Green Floral Giada Maxi Skirt feels like spring and would be cute with any white blouse or a simple white tee. Perfect for church, brunch, or an Easter egg hunt.

    Madewell Kick Out Crop Jeans

I mentioned these throughout the post, but the Madewell Kick Out Crop Jeans are the most flattering white jeans I’ve found (and I tried 15 pairs). They cost more than some other jeans online, but the quality and fit make them totally worth the price. They fit true to size.

Pink and Green Print Logan Shirt

This Pink and Green Print Logan Shirt is a bit splurgy, but everything I’ve ever ordered from Tuckernuck has been worth it. If you’re not planning to wear a dress for Easter, you might want to consider investing in a special top that you can wear for years to come.
