What I Wore Lately: Transition Style | Jo-Lynne Shane

Hi, friends! It’s time for another What I Wore Lately—a look at my everyday outfits from the past few weeks. I hope this gives you some fresh ideas for mixing and matching your own wardrobe, though I’ll admit my looks have been feeling a bit repetitive since I got back from Florida.

It’s that awkward in-between time of year when I’ve cleared out a lot of my winter clothes, but it’s still not quite warm enough for spring ones, so I find myself reaching for my old favorites. But that’s okay—this is real life over here, and we all get into a bit of a style rut from time to time! Things will get more interesting once the weather warms up a bit more. For better or worse, here’s what I’ve been wearing lately…

Also, a lot of my favorite denim is 25% off during the Saks Friends & Family Sale! I’ll call out the best deals throughout the post.

    Everyday Looks for Real Life

It’s hard to believe how far back these pictures go. I always have to look back through my calendar to remember where I went when I write these posts, but this time, some of these outfits even predate my trip to Florida! That feels like forever ago at this point.

This first look is from my weekly women’s Bible study almost a month ago. I was getting a little tired of rotating between the same two or three pairs of jeans, so I pulled out these PAIGE Leenah ankle flares and built my outfit around them. I leaned into lighter neutrals as a subtle nod to spring, even though the weather that day still felt very much like winter.

These booties are an older pair from Aquatalia—they’re waterproof, which made them perfect for the messy weather we were having. To keep the look cohesive, I threw on my Aritzia puffer in the taupe for an extra layer of warmth.

The next day, I had Pilates followed by a medical appointment, so I needed an outfit that worked for both. I figured my Pranayama Wrap would be a step up from my usual hoodie—and by the way, it’s currently 30% off! It comes in a bunch of colors, and it’s my favorite for travel and lounging.

It was freezing that day, so I pulled out my “sleeping bag coat” — that’s what I call it, anyway! This Aritzia Puffer is like wearing a big bear hug, and I’m so glad I splurged. I know I’ll have it for many years.

After the trip, it was back to everyday life. For my first full day home, I kept it casual with my new Sarasota sweatshirt, blue jeans, and silver sneakers.

I re-wore this comfy look the next day for a hair appointment, but this time, I swapped the brown sneakers for a cream and coral pair. The lighter colors made it feel a little more like spring.

We met friends for dinner that night, and it was still cold enough for a puffer coat, evidently. I intentionally went with the taupe one to coordinate with my outfit.

The next day, I had a nail appointment, and we ordered pizza for dinner, so I kept it casual with another similar look. This time, I added a bit of color with my new Frank & Eileen henley.

After I got back from Florida, I cleared out my heaviest and darkest winter clothes, along with anything I hadn’t been wearing. It feels good to have more space in my closet! Since then, I’ve really been leaning into my favorite sweaters, jeans, and sneaker outfits. We’ve had a few nice days, but it’s still too cold for spring clothes—and to be honest, I’m not feeling especially inspired right now. So yeah, it was the MOTHER Weekenders again!

I had Pilates the next day, and then it just so happened that my assistant, Amy, was in the area. We made last-minute plans to grab breakfast, but I didn’t have time to go home and change—so workout clothes it was. Not exactly what I would’ve chosen for our first meeting, but hey, sometimes you just have to roll with it!

For church that Sunday, I went with shades of grey and pink. When I splurged on this sweater last fall, I knew I’d appreciate it even more this time of year. It’s super cozy and warm, but the soft rose color and v-neck cardigan design give it a subtle nod to spring. Also, it’s fully stocked and on sale at Vince.com! I went with my light grey Aquatalia boots to keep the color palette soft and cohesive.

The next day, I changed into this stripe sweater and darker wash jeans after a photo shoot with Alison. (If you’re local, she’s now scheduling her summer Beach Sessions! If you didn’t know, she also does family photography, and her work is amazing. I highly recommend reaching out if you’re in the area.)

I’ve been waiting for the weather to warm up so I could start wearing this striped hooded cardigan, and it’s finally the perfect time for it! I love how the navy and ivory stripes pair with dark wash denim—it makes the whole look feel a little more polished. (FYI, J.Crew has a similar pair at a much lower price.)

Also, if you’re looking for a budget-friendly alternative to the Gucci loafer mule, Quince has a really good option—and they even have it in taupe, a shade Gucci discontinued.

Last Friday, the girls and I drove down to visit Paul’s mom, and I pulled out this half zip with the fun striped placket and paired it with my old faithful MOTHER Weekender jeans. This top is on sale, by the way!

This is how uninspired I am with my closet right now… I reached for the same jeans as the day before and threw on another pullover and sneakers. And yes, I finally caved and grabbed the Jenni Kayne Flynn in another color when it was on sale over Presidents’ Day Weekend. I just love the easy fit, the flattering v-neck, and the incredible quality. It feels amazing on, and the black is a classic I know I’ll wear a ton.

For church on Sunday, I reached for an old favorite—the Rails Geneva Cardigan in classic camel and black stripes. It occurred to me that this could be a great piece for my London travel capsule if we have a chilly spring. (FYI, this sweater is currently an amazing deal—65% off at Revolve! It’s been a favorite of mine for two years running, so if you’ve had your eye on it, now’s the perfect time to take the plunge!)

I also took the opportunity to try out my new Sézane trench—another contender for my London packing list. I love the oversized, relaxed look, and it’s so comfortable. But I’m wondering if it might be a bit much for London in May. What do you think?

Finally, yesterday I did a bunch of try-ons and ended up wearing this outfit for a while. I got chilly and changed back into one of my Jenni Kayne sweaters, but at least I felt festive for St. Paddy’s Day—if only for a little while… haha!

Side note: These Vionic ballet flats are so comfortable, and I really like the styling with the slightly squared-off toe. I was worried they might feel a little frumpy, but I don’t think they do—as long as they’re styled in a modern way. They’re a great compromise for a comfort shoe; in fact, I’m also considering bringing these to London with me.

And that’s a wrap! As you can see, I’m in that in-between phase where I’m reaching for my tried-and-true favorites while waiting for the weather to warm up. As we inch closer to spring, I’ll have some fresher outfit ideas to share.

Are you feeling stuck in a style rut too, or have you been able to start wearing spring clothes?
