I’ve been making these for years, switching up the sprinkles to match different holidays, but there’s something extra special about the Valentine’s version. The chocolate-filled centers look just like little hearts, so they’re perfect for love day.
Why you’ll fall in love with these Valentine’s pretzel hearts
Have you heard of ‘love languages’ – the concept that different people show and receive love in different ways. I’ve always thought that food should be an official love language. Well, these Valentine’s pretzel hearts check a few boxes – acts of service, quality time, and a delicious little gift all in one!
Here are five reasons to fall in love with these Valentine’s pretzel hearts:
- Quick and easy: Making these with your love is a great date idea – it’s simple enough that you can easily keep the flirting going without losing focus, and not too time consuming, so you can layer it up with another date activity.
- Taste: Food is all about balance, and these are the perfect blend of sweet and salty.
- Customizable: Use a different chocolate, add some food coloring, or mix up the sprinkles to make it your own while you make it fun.
- Fun: Decorating these is such an enjoyable activity.
- Good for any occasion: Package them up as gifts, bring them to a love -themed party, or enjoy them as a festive snack!
Ingredients for Valentine’s pretzel hearts
You don’t need much to show your love this Valentine’s Day! Just a handful of ingredients. Grab these items, put on some romantic music, and make some hearts melt. This is what you need:
- Mini pretzels: These salty, heart shaped treats are the base for these Valentine’s Day treats. I like the small bites of the mini pretzels but regular sized pretzels work, too.
- White chocolate melting wafers: Something sweet to balance the salt from the pretzels! Get some melting wafers from your supermarket or online. (You can use dark or milk chocolate if you’d like).
- Coconut oil: White chocolate is notorious for seizing if it gets too hot, so a little coconut oil makes it easier to melt and pour. You can omit this if you’re using another type of chocolate.
- Sprinkles: You can use any sprinkles or decorations you’d like.
- Optional: A drop of food coloring will give you pink chocolate!
How to make Valentine’s pretzel hearts
Let’s be honest – we don’t need a specific day to celebrate love, but Valentine’s Day gives us the perfect excuse to do something cute! These Valentine’s pretzel hearts are easy – they’re no bake and ready in just minutes. This is how it’s done:
- Prep: Arrange the pretzels in a single layer on parchment paper on a baking sheet, then melt the wafers and coconut oil in the microwave until it’s melted.
- Drizzle: Use a spoon to scoop a bit of melted chocolate and drizzle it into the pretzels. Add any sprinkles you’d like to decorate them with.
- Cool and enjoy: Let the chocolate cool, then once it’s hardened, you can pack them up to give to your Valentine (or eat them!)
4 simple tips to make Valentine’s pretzel hearts with LOVE
These Valentine’s chocolate pretzels are as easy as they are adorable, but a few small tricks can make the process even smoother. Whether you’re making these for a party, a gift, or just for fun, here’s how to get the best results every time:
- Melt with love: White chocolate is known to seize if you overheat it, which is why I recommend adding coconut oil and melting it in bursts after the first minute – around 10 seconds in the microwave at a time, and stir it in between.
- Choose the right chocolate: Chocolate wafers are made for melting, so you’re more likely to get an even melt. If you use chocolate chips, you may want to up the coconut oil to improve the consistency.
- Drizzle control: Use a spoon for a casual drizzle, or, if you’re feeling really professional, you can use a piping bag (or a Ziplock bag with the corner cut off) for more precision.
- Decorate quickly: The chocolate won’t take too long to harden, so if you’re adding sprinkles or decoration, do so right away before the chocolate sets.
How to decorate Valentine’s pretzel hearts
Now for the best part – dressing up your pretzel hearts with the love and sparkles they deserve! Whether you’re going for a classic look or over-the-top, love-inspired hearts, they’re truly fun to decorate with kids, with a date, or with your girlfriends.
Here are some decoration ideas:
- Regular sprinkles: Stick with Valentine’s Day colors like red, pink, and white for a festive touch.
- Decorative sprinkles: Look for adorable shapes like hearts, roses, or even Xs and Os for extra romance.
- Pearl sprinkles: For the elegant lovers out there, these add a little glam.
- Edible glitter: Add some luster to your pretzels with some edible glitter!
- Heart sprinkles: Keep the love heart theme going with these little heart-shaped sprinkles – they’re too cute!
- Love letters: Use a icing pen to write little love notes or your loves initials on the chocolate. Add some XO hugs and kisses, write your initials together, or draw little hearts.
- Get personal: If your sweetheart love Smarties, press some on! If they obsessed with Oreos, crush a few and sprinkle them over top. Tailor your toppings to their taste, and you’ve got a thoughtful snack, straight from the heart.

Frequently Asked Questions
If you don’t find the answer you’re looking for here, you can ask it in the comments below, and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible!
Can I use milk or dark chocolate instead?
You can! They pair well with the salty crunch of the pretzels. You can omit the coconut oil if you use milk or dark chocolate.
Is the coconut oil essential?
No, but it will help the white chocolate melt more smoothly, and it also helps make it easier to drizzle. You can also use a neutral-flavored oil such as avocado oil.
How long does it take the chocolate to set?
This will vary slightly depending on the brand of chocolate and the temperature of the room where you make them, but in general, anywhere from 5-10 minutes.
How do I store Valentine’s Day pretzels?
Store them in an airtight container on the counter at room temperature. They’ll last around a week.

Valentine’s Pretzel Hearts Recipe
Recipe video above. We make versions of these Valentine’s pretzel hearts for many holidays, switching up the sprinkles to match the occasion. But I especially enjoy them on February 14th as the chocolate filled pretzels look like hearts!
Notes
Pretzels: I prefer the small bites of mini pretzels, but regular-sized pretzels work too. 1 cup = 40 grams or approximately 30 mini pretzels.
Coconut oil: Adding a little coconut oil to the white chocolate helps it to melt easier (white chocolate is notorious for seizing if it gets too hot) and makes it easier to pour into the pretzels. Use refined coconut oil if you don’t want a coconut flavor. Or you can opt for a neutral-flavored oil, such as avocado oil, but know that the chocolate will take longer to harden and will be a little softer.
