When it comes to playing games in the comfort of my living room couch, I swear by an OLED display. Nothing beats the rich contrast between the inky blacks and the vivid colour arrays. Samsung’s OLED displays have consistently been mentioned as OLED TV models that should be considered when making an update. The new flagship OLED display, the S95F from Samsung, proves this trend will continue throughout 2025.
Samsung is bringing a rich stable of new features and improvements to its OLED catalogue in 2025. This includes the new S95F, available in 55-, 65-, and 77-inch options. New OLED models for 2025 also include the S90F, incorporating size options from 42 inches all the way to 83 inches. Additionally, Samsung is introducing the S85F, the entry-level model with 55- to 83-inch models. All of Samsung’s new displays run off the Tizen software as well as include support for cloud gaming apps like Xbox Game Pass, GeForce Now and Amazon’s Luna service.
Seeing is always believing, so while in New Jersey, visiting Samsung’s QA Lab and seeing the new Neo QLED 8K and 4K series, I also sat down with the S95F to take it all in. Since my trip, I haven’t stopped thinking about wanting to play through my current gaming rotation on this pitch-perfect OLED display.
New display technology, upping the ante
The flagship S95F OLED from Samsung introduces new glare-free technology. Samsung states that it went back to the drawing board after introducing a glare-free experience with last year’s S95D and innovated on the technology. Now, the S95F includes anti-glare features to better combat direct sunlight as well as ambient lighting.
As someone who constantly has to fight off sunlight in the living room of my condo, I was elated that Samsung is continuing to invest in ensuring that picture quality isn’t diminished when dealing with exposed windows and light pollution. The glare-free technology renders a matte-like finish on the screen. Previously, this finish meant that black levels were a bit muted. This year, Samsung has addressed this, ensuring that contrast didn’t diminish as much.
Samsung’s OLED displays utilize quantum dot technology to elevate the rich contrast and vivid colours supported. The company states that the 2025 suite offers its “brightest-ever” OLED displays. The S95F supports Pantone-validated colours and pure blacks when playing games and while streaming on any number of services. Sitting down in a well-lit room in Samsung’s QA Lab, I put on Daredevil: Born Again on Disney+. I was quite surprised by how uncompromised the picture was, with overhead lighting beaming down onto the display. Sure, the vividness and contrast weren’t as stunning as it was when I turned off all the lights. However, I was consistently impressed by the visuals regardless if the lights were on or off.
Helping to power the S95F’s visuals is Samsung’s NQ4 AI Gen 3 processor. Samsung told me that the new chipset is responsible for optimizing the contrast, brightness, and depth of colours. The chip integrates AI technology so the OLED display is constantly calibrating across each scene. So, even more details can be spotted between bright scenes and those that are darker. With 165Hz refresh rate support as well, Samsung’s flagship OLED TV for 2025 runs impeccably smoothly while watching a movie or when playing games. Throughout my short experience using the display, I never came across an egregious screen-tearing or lag in the picture.
Gaming is a bonafide delight on the new OLED display
I’ve been swearing by the use of an OLED TV in my living room since 2020. I’ve fallen in love with the clarity some of the contemporary models can offer when playing games on an Xbox Series X or PlayStation 5. The best part is that OLED TVs have been far more affordable for consumers in recent years. Samsung’s S95F doesn’t veer off course when looking at the benefits OLEDs can offer when playing games from your console. With support for 165Hz, both the Xbox and PlayStation can provide a max of 120Hz, depending on each title. This could be a great benefit for some competitive games where a lag-free experience is necessary. It’s also very hard to beat the colour and clarity of an image when playing modern games like Cyberpunk 2077 or The Last of Us Part 2.
Samsung’s latest TVs also support a variety of cloud gaming platforms via the Samsung Gaming Hub. Installed on the S95F was access to Xbox Game Pass via cloud gaming. Nvidia’s GeForce Now and Amazon Luna were also available. What’s nice is having these options baked in means that you don’t necessarily have to have a console connected to the TV to begin playing a catalogue of games. With Bluetooth support, I was also able to quickly sync a Luna controller to the S95F and begin playing Halo Infinite and Psychonauts 2.
As with any cloud gaming service, mileage varies depending on the internet connection. Unfortunately, the internet speeds weren’t the greatest at Samsung’s QA Lab. I was able to jump into a few rounds of Balatro and enjoy my time relatively easily. However, for games like Halo Infinite and Psychonauts 2, it was hard to combat the unreliable connectivity. That being said, the visuals across the board were impressive. Even if not running the software natively, the visuals of these games beamed off the screen with loud colours smattering the large 77-inch display.
Samsung’s Vision AI is supported across the board
Samsung is bringing its Vision AI support to the S95F, S90F, and S85F. This AI-powered technology supports a handful of features that are designed to add more quality-of-life benefits to the user. As first experienced on the Neo QLED 8K and Neo QLED 4K, Vision AI supports a ‘Click to Search’ feature across content played on Samsung TV Plus. This offers information on actors that are present in the movie or show. Click to Search also provides a contextual summary of what’s being played as well as other recommended titles to choose from. Samsung confirms that the recommendations are based on an AI algorithm and aren’t generated based on a user’s personal tastes in movies or shows.
The S95F’s use of Vision AI also includes Live Translate, which provides real-time subtitles on live broadcasts, a wonderful innovation as subtitles for live TV aren’t all too common. Vision AI also supports ‘Samsung Food’ which uses AI technology to analyze the food that’s on the display and provides recipes or food delivery suggestions. It’s unclear whether this feature will be available in Canada. Finally, ‘Home Insights’ and ‘Pet and Family Care’ offer real-time alerts to users by monitoring the home if you’re out of the house or on vacation.
Samsung’s S95F, S90F, and S85F OLED displays are available to pre-order now. Canadian pricing has yet to be confirmed by Samsung. MobileSyrup has reached out to Samsung for clarification.
