July 2022 Theme: What Sparks Your Curiosity? | Wit & Delight

As we get older, we often lean even more into what we already know to be true. We gravitate toward these things because there’s a sense of security in certainty. In doing so, we often lose the sense of wonder that’s an innate part of being human—but that doesn’t mean we can’t strive to recapture it.

This July, our theme on Wit & Delight is all about curiosity.

I’ve always loved learning, but school was never the perfect opportunity for me to do so. My curiosity has always been very internally motivated, first and foremost driven by an interest in the unknown and the enjoyment of experience. I’m curious about my own mind and why I am the way I am, I’m curious to learn more about others, and I’m curious to soak in all there is to enjoy in life.

To me, curiosity is an opportunity to pay a bit more attention to all that surrounds us. It’s an invitation to explore a topic further when we want to know more. It’s a call to reassess our goals, our daily routines, and our relationships, then adjust whatever isn’t working.

To me, curiosity is an opportunity to pay a bit more attention to all that surrounds us. It’s an invitation to explore a topic further when we want to know more.

As you enter the month of July, I encourage you to reflect on what curiosity means to you. What in particular has sparked your interest recently? In what spaces of your life have you felt stuck of late? Would approaching them through a lens of curiosity help you see areas of opportunity instead?

In low times throughout my life, my sense of curiosity has always provided a moment of light. It’s helped me find a sense of resilience. It’s helped me rethink some of the unhelpful narratives I’d previously told myself in order to discover new ways of being. Curiosity is a mindset that’s well worth embracing, throughout all the many phases of our lives.

This July on W&D, our contributors will be writing about the hidden benefits of anxiety and why curiosity is key to a healthy relationship. I’ll be sharing a list of things you might not know about me, expensive things I bought that *weren’t* worth it, and our pared-down plans for the basement redesign. Stay tuned for this and plenty more throughout the month ahead!
