Let’s be honest: Mom-life is a full-body sport. Between school drop-offs, grocery runs, soccer games, and the occasional (much-needed) date night (not to mention a work schedule if you’re a working mom), it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and let your wardrobe take a back seat to everything else in life.

I’ve been there– sometimes wearing a cute outfit is the last thing on my mind. But after taking inventory of my own closet (I try to clean my closet out each season), I’ve learned how to create cute outfits that are easy to wear (and put together) throughout all the busy events of my day. Wearing a polished outfit benefits my mind and attitude more than I realized, so I’ve started creating easy outfit “formulas” that make getting dressed in the mornings faster and less overwhelming.

Today’s post lists 10 casual mom-approved outfits that balance easy and polish. I think you’ll be able to recreate these looks with items you already own, but if not, I’ve linked my favorite pieces so you can add a few new items to your wardrobe.

How to Dress Like a Cool Mom: 10 Casual Outfit Ideas

Outfit #1: Denim Shorts + Elevated Casual Top

This combo is the definition of effortless. Go for high-waist denim shorts with a flattering fit (my favorite mom-approved jean shorts are linked here) and pair them with a cute top in a breathable fabric like linen or cotton, or a lightweight sweater like this striped option from Lands’ End. Look for details like puff sleeves, buttons, or a fun print to add interest– I shared my 10 favorite Tuckernuck tops in this post for some ideas. Throw on leather sandals (these Amazon slides are affordable and comfortable, or any of the sandals I shared in this sandal roundup) or white sneakers (I shared 9 great pairs of white sneakers here), your favorite sunglasses, and a dainty necklace (all of my favorite everyday jewelry is linked here) to complete the look. This outfit is perfect for warm days at the park or casual errands with the kids.

Outfit #2: Comfy Jeans + White Tee

You can’t go wrong with a classic white tee and a pair of comfy jeans. Look for jeans with stretch (but not too much- my favorite pair are the Hustler from MOTHER, but this Quince Kick Flare style is a great affordable alternative) and a high waist to keep everything in place while you’re bending and moving.

Tuck in your tee for a polished vibe, and add a lightweight sweater or pullover when the weather cools off. White sneakers or booties work perfectly here, depending on the season. Add a pop of color with bold earrings or layered necklaces to elevate this go-to mom outfit. My favorite “statement” jewelry that doesn’t feel too bold is by Susan Shaw.

I own a handful of great white T-shirts, but my all-time favorite is this Sold Out NYC tee. This Abercrombie white tee is also a great affordable option.

Outfit #3: Soccer Mom Look (aka Athleisure That Wins)

Yes, you can wear leggings or athletic shorts and still look pulled together (in fact, you can even wear leggings in some work settings, when styled correctly). Opt for high-quality black or charcoal leggings paired with a structured, zip-up athletic jacket, fitted workout tee (this Amazon workout tee is hard to beat and comes in many colors), or an oversized sweatshirt in a trending color. I love this pair of HeyNuts Amazon leggings for most days, but the Lululemon Align pants are a great elevated option. A baseball cap, sporty sunglasses, and your favorite sneakers pull it all together. This is your MVP look for early morning games, school pickups, and days when you just need to move. A great way to make your athleisure look and feel more like a true outfit is to wear just one color (all-black, for example).

I tend to stick to a cute pair of sporty sneakers like the New Balance 327s rather than wearing true running shoes, which always makes my outfit a little cuter.

Outfit #4: The Golf Look (Even if You Don’t Play)

The preppy golf aesthetic is trending for a reason: it’s polished, sporty, and surprisingly wearable. Try a sleeveless polo or a collared knit top with tailored shorts or ankle-length trousers. Finish the look with crisp white sneakers (my top pick are these Cariuma sneakers) or flat sandals and a structured tote bag. I shared the best mom bags in this post. This is a perfect outfit for lunch dates, errands, or even volunteering at school.

You could also opt for a feminine polo dress that feels polished but comfortable. If you don’t like a collar, this sleeveless tennis dress from Amazon is another great mom look.

Outfit #5: Mini Dress with Shorts Underneath

You might be surprised how often I wear a mini dress as a busy mom. While they may seem impractical since you’re always bending down as a mom, the best hack I’ve found is to wear a pair of biker shorts underneath. That way, you can still rock a short dress without stressing about flashing someone if you sit on the floor or bend down to grab your toddler. My favorite biker shorts are from Amazon, and I buy them in the Heather Coffee color so they don’t show under white dresses.

My all-time favorite short dress for warm weather is this Navy Charlie Dress from Tuckernuck. It has a mock-neck collar, pockets, and a button-front placket, which makes it easy for breastfeeding. The sleeveless style is great for hot days, too.

    Outfit #6: The Easy Dress

A soft, flowy midi dress is one of the easiest ways to look cute with zero effort (it’s only one piece!). Go for breathable fabrics like cotton, jersey, or tencel. Pick one with pockets (obviously) and an easy-on silhouette like a tiered or wrap style. My personal favorite everyday midi dress is the Ellie Nap Dress from Hill House – I shared why I love the Ellie dress so much here. Pair with flat sandals like these bow slides from Amazon, loafers, or low-top white sneakers. Keep it simple with gold hoops or a pendant necklace and call it done. Another easy dress is this Rory dress from Frank & Eileen. It’s comfortable and relaxed without drowning your frame (it’s also nursing friendly, along with these other dresses). Perfect for a single day full of kid-chasing, errands, and maybe even dinner out. I find a midi (or maxi) length makes it easier to bend down, grab children, and sit on the floor–all of which you’ll do in a single hour as a busy mom.

    Outfit #7: Date Night

Just because you’re a mom doesn’t mean date night can’t be fun *and* stylish. A cute top with interesting texture or cut (think puff sleeves, silky fabric, or a little shimmer–I happen to love this Chambray Blouse from Tuckernuck since you can easily wear it casually, too) paired with dark denim (maybe these wide leg jeans from Pistola, just use TERILYN15 for 15% off) is always a win. Add simple block heels or sandals, a statement necklace or earrings, and a clutch to bring it all together. A simple date-night outfit is all about elevating a few pieces you already own– easy and doesn’t require a shopping trip.

    Outfit #8: The Matching Set

Loungewear has evolved, and matching sets are proof. One of my favorite options is this striped set from Splendid. You buy the polo top and the Whitney shorts separately, but they’re adorable paired together. I also recently got this Camel Travel Set from Frank and Eileen, and it’s by far the best lounge set I’ve ever owned. It’s comfortable like any lounge set should be, but the cut and fit make it ultra flattering and easy to style with sandals or sneakers. It’s washable too, which is essential when investing in a nice loungewear set. It’s an easy way to look put-together while feeling like you’re still in pajamas. I also love this shorts + sleeveless matching set from Amazon. I resembles Varley but at a fraction of the cost.

Outfit #9: Volunteer at School Day (Gotta Look Nice!)

When you’re volunteering at school or attending a class party, you want to look presentable without trying too hard. This pair of Quince kick flare jeans or ankle trousers (this pair of washable linen pants from Frank and Eileen are my current favorites) with a pretty blouse (namely this short-sleeved cashmere sweater) or soft button-up (I can’t recommend this washable cotton button-down enough) is a perfect choice. Add low heels or chic flats, a crossbody bag, and you’re good to go. You’ll look stylish and approachable—ideal for chatting with other parents or helping with crafts.

Outfit #10: Stay at Home Mom Style (Kneeling, Bending and Chasing Approved)

Function meets style here. Look for soft, comfortable sets (see my recommendations above) or a casual romper that you can easily pair with sneakers. I just bought this pink utility romper from Target, and it’s the perfect mom outfit for everyday tasks (along with being super affordable). Whether you’re building block towers, kneeling for diaper duty, or racing to catch a toddler, this romper will work well for you. I filmed a quick try-on video in this romper.

If you want a few more romper options, Pistola makes some great ones, and my code, TERILYN15, will save you a little money.

Style as a mom should never feel like an afterthought. With a few go-to outfits in your closet that mix comfort with confidence, you’ll always be ready for whatever the day throws at you—milk spills, soccer cleats, or impromptu Target runs included.
