Another year, another season, another fashion cycle. Spring/Summer fashion weeks have passed, and the results are in. The new trends are here, and they’re filling the stores (and our closets).

From feminine florals, tulle, and lace to edgy plaids, sport-inspired items, and tailored pieces like three-piece suits, there is a lot of range this Spring/Summer season.

We have already written a comprehensive list of the biggest Spring/Summer trends. But how do you style them? That’s today’s focus.

The spectrum of Spring/Summer 2025 trends is wide, making it tricky to know what could be worth adding to your closet and how you’ll style everything. Here are my tips for tackling this spring’s trends:

    • Shop your closet – Before you go on a shopping spree, especially if you’re not sure if you will love a specific trend, check what you already have. For example, the tailoring trend might have caught your eye. A new three-piece suit is too expensive to just splurge on without being sure, right? You can achieve this tailored look by wearing pieces you already have, such as a blazer and button-up, a pair of trousers, and a ribbon as a makeshift tie.
    • Start small – If you’re unsure about a trend but feel like it would fit with your closet or style, start with small piece. Accessories and shoes are a great way to add trendy prints, colors, and textures to your look. For example, adding a tie will instantly give you that tailored effect and can transform your entire idea of one of your most worn outfits.
    • Are we all related? – Stop looking at trends individually. There’s usually some natural relationship or correlation between trends. Tailoring and plaids naturally go hand in hand, with many suits available in plaid fabric. The recent boom of skinny flared jeans, sheer, flowy fabrics, and studded items relate directly to the rise of boho chic. When you see how they respond to the other, it’s easier to style them and cheaper when you realize one item can cover multiple trends at once.
    • Play with proportions – Trends are not only about individual pieces. There are styling trends, too. For example, playing with proportions is one of the biggest styling trends of the season. Another one is playing with sheer layers. These are easy ways to give your outfits an updated look without buying any specific piece.

    Outfit #1 – Tailoring

Let’s start with tailoring. Suits, trousers, ties, loafers, and tailoring have exploded this season. This is one of my favorite trends since I love suits so much.

While I do have a couple of suits in my closet, I wanted to try and style an outfit without the complete set. I think this would be the most realistic approach for most people.

Spring/SUmmer 2025 Trends Outfit 1 Tailoring: butter yellow lace skirt, butter yellow button up shirt, brown balzer, brown knee high boots

For the base of the look, I put on an oversized butter yellow button-up shirt and lace skirt. Butter yellow and lace are also super trendy this season. Then, I threw on a brown, oversized blazer. For shoes, I went with a pair of knee-high brown boots. Finally, I accessorized with gold jewelry.

I love this outfit! I believe it’s a perfect example of various trendy elements working with my personal style. For example, mocha mousse, Pantone’s color of the year, is a muted, cool-toned shade of brown. It’s a gorgeous color that makes me look even paler than I already am.

Instead of wearing that shade, I opted for a chocolate brown that I already love and know suits me better. I’m also playing with proportions, with all the items being oversized, and contrast, by pairing stiffer items like the blazer and shirt with flowy fabrics like the lace skirt.

    Outfit #2 – Sports-Inspired Items

Now, let’s tackle sports-inspired items. This season’s sporty trend includes jackets, loose-fit sweatpants in bright colors, rugby polo shirts, slim sneakers, and anything varsity-themed. Bonus points if any of these items come in bright colors.

While I’m not the most casual or sporty person, there are a couple of items that are trending that I do wear and love. Polo shirts, tennis skirts, slim sneakers and letterman jackets are some of those items.

Spring/Summer 2025 Trends Outfit 2 Sporty items: rugby sweatshirt, black flared jeans, red and blue socks, black Nike Cortez, navy blue jacket

I started off with a pair of black baby-bootcut jeans and a vintage red and blue rugby sweatshirt. Then, I put on one red sock and one blue sock to add an eclectic element and more color blocking to the look. For shoes, I used a pair of black Nike Cortez. Finally, I threw on a navy blue letterman jacket.

This is a comfortable look that includes a couple of trending pieces. While this is not 100% my style, it’s a fun and subtle take on the sport-inspired trend.

If you wanted to get more advanced with this, I would also recommend mixing a sports jersey or t-shirt with a very flowy, feminine skirt or dress, making the contrast the star of your look.

Outfit #3 – Plaid, Gingham, Checks, and Tartan

’90s plaid has been trending off and on for the last couple of years. But plaid, gingham, tartan, and checks have taken 2025 by storm. These are some of *the* prints for 2025. Again, they appear most often on tailored pieces or those with flowy, oversized silhouettes.

To create my look, I chose gingham because I think it is the most Spring/Summer print of them all. I also wanted to create a really relaxed type of look.

Spring/Summer 2025 Trends Outfit 3 Gingham: blue gingham pants, yellow t shirt, blue suede Sambas, golden bag, black sunglasses

I started with a pair of sky-blue gingham pants. Then, for my top, I wore a light yellow graphic t-shirt and tucked it in. For shoes, I chose blue suede Sambas. Finally, I accessorized with black sunglasses, gold jewelry, and a golden bag.

If you want to get into these prints, I’d recommend trying gingham first because it’s usually the least busy and most straightforward to style. Just pair a white or graphic tee with bottoms in that print. That’s exactly what I did here: instead of wearing white or blue jeans with this T-shirt, I went with gingham pants, and it gives this simple combo a fresher, cooler vibe. Making simple switches like that will immediately elevate your look.

Any of these prints will be easy to style if you pay attention to the colors in the print and use them as your guide for the rest of your styling.

    Outfit #4 – Boho Chic

Aesthetically, boho chic is booming. Think early aughts and 2010s boho chic more than 70s boho chic. Lace, tulle, bell sleeves, flowy fabrics, and flared jeans are hugely popular. Embracing one’s natural hair texture has also followed suit.

While I don’t typically like this type of styling for myself, I find it very cool and interesting on other people. So I wanted to tackle it to prove that you don’t necessarily need to shop to achieve a trendy aesthetic or look.

Spring/Summer 2025 Trends Outfit 4 boho chic: lace shirt, tulle skirt, off white clogs, corduroy vest, gold cuffs, gold belt, gold necklaces, long gold earrings

First, I decided my base would start with light, flowy fabrics. So, I paired an off white lace top with a tulle off white midi skirt. This time, I didn’t tuck in the shirt and just let it be. Then, I layered it with a brown corduroy vest with a little flower pattern. For shoes, I went with a pair of off white clogs.

Finally, we get to where the magic happens: accessories. I piled on long, brassy necklaces, gold cuffs, a stack of gold bangles, a gold belt, and a pair of long earrings with natural stones.

As you can see, this is clearly not my style, but I created this look without buying anything. Though it might not seem that way, boho is one of the easiest trends on this list to style; you just need to pay attention to your fabric selection and accessorizing.

For materials, sheer fabrics, suede, corduroy, and cotton are the best choices for a boho chic look, especially if they have some sort of floral, leafy pattern. For accessories, layering different metals, lengths, and over accessorizing are the best way to go, especially if you choose brassy jewelry, antique-looking items, or natural stones.

    Outfit #5 – Nautical

Nautical-inspired outfits and items are steadily increasing in popularity and will be huge this summer. Blue-striped items are the most popular form of this trend, but anything you can picture on a boat is in right now.

Just like boho chic, this is not a style I would choose for myself, but I love elements of it, and I enjoy a good twist on a classic type of style.

Spring/Summer 2025 Trends Outfit 5 Nautical: nav blue striped sweater, white cotton shorts, gold loafers, red and blue ascot, brown handbag, red sunglasses

To style this trend, I started with a blue and white striped sweater with a pair of white cotton shorts. Then, I put on a red and blue ascot. For shoes, instead of a neutral color, I wore a pair of golden loafers. Finally, I added a vintage leather handbag and a pair of red sunglasses.

Again, a nautical style might be too preppy and neutral for me, but with little twists, I made it work for me. If I wanted to make the outfit more eclectic, I’d add a fun patterned shirt or jacket, but I wanted to make this as simple as possible. And again, I didn’t buy anything.

I bet you have a blue striped item lying around, but if you don’t, don’t worry. Achieving a nautical look is all about classic fitting items in navy blue, red, and varying shades of white. I’d focus especially on thin fabrics, like cotton, linen, and either light or dark wash thin denim.
