Set photos from Loki Season 2 have revealed Easter Eggs referencing Eternals and some of Marvel’s more obscure comic characters.
Set photos surfaced online earlier today from the filming of Loki Season 2, showing Tom Hiddleston and Owen Wilson teaming up again as Loki and TVA Agent Mobius. The pair appeared to have traveled back in time and further photos seem to confirm the 1970s setting.
The new images offer a look at some very ’70s movie posters, all of which feature other Marvel characters – one who has already appeared in the MCU in Eternals and two who seem unlikely to make the leap into live action.
The set photos, taken in London where Loki Season 2 is currently shooting, reveal a selection of posters on the wall of a cinema. The posters are all fashioned after classic ’70s horror, Bollywood and action movie posters.
One of the film posters features Zaniac, a classic Marvel villain introduced in Thor #319 in 1982. He was known to have possesed multiple people, overwhelming them with an urge to kill beautiful women – in Marvel continuity, Zaniac is believed to have been Jack the Ripper.
Another poster from the Loki set showed the Phone Ranger. This obscure character, introduced in Marvel Age Annual #1 in 1985, became a superhero after gaining powers from an alien phone. He had the power to tap into communications technology and was last seen in Marvel’s “Civil War” event, fighting on Captain America’s side.
The final poster, almost obligatorily, features Kumail Nanjiani’s Kingo from Eternals. That film introduced the immortal Kingo as a character who had spent a good chunk of his long life as a Bollywood movie star, posing as his own descendents to explain away his immortality.
