Currently (April 2025)

Hello and a good April morning to you! What’s the weather like where you are right now? We’ve had such an exciting tease of a couple 80 degree days. However, this week is back to a little cooler with a lot of rain. Ah, spring, you’re quickly rising in the ranks as a contender for my favorite season (fall). If you could fully get rid of pollen, you might stand a real chance 😉

It’s time for another currently post! I love writing these and reading them- Julie posted one recently, too, and I thought it was pretty fun that we are reading the same book. Ok, let’s dive in!

    Currently Watching

March Madness! We have so much fun with it, filling out brackets in our own little family competition. The winner (based on points collected through all the rounds) gets to pick a fun family activity. The girls are hoping to win for an escape room opportunity, but I’m leaning more towards a hike if I can pull it off. However, David is the only one who picked a championship contender (Houston), so if they go all the way, then I think he has it in the bag.

    Currently Reading

Demon Copperhead. It’s a long one and I’m currently a little over halfway so I’ll hold off on a full assessment. I will say that it’s holding my attention though, the emotional story and trials of this resilient boy born and raised in southern Appalachia. It’s raw and honest and sad and inspiring all in one.

    Currently Listening To

A wide range of music. We like to pass the phone around in the car and let each person add a song to the queue on Spotify, which means we end up with a playlist that looks a little something like this: Heads Carolina, Good Morning Baltimore, Stick Season, Astronaut in the Ocean, I Can Do It With A Broken Heart, Seven Nation Army, Queen of My Double Wide Trailer, then Beautiful Things. It’s quite a fun mix, I must admit.

    Currently Eating

Salads and sourdough. I think I just nailed my bread machine sourdough sandwich bread recipe (no yeast) and will share it soon. As I was testing different versions of it, we’ve been going through about a loaf a day (with the help of Finley who has counter surfed to “help us” finish up the ends).

Our community chickens are producing so well right now, and I love the rainbow of eggs that they collectively lay. They are pretty, but thankfully also delicious, as we’ve been going through a lot of eggs, roughly 7-8 a day as a family.

Also, yogurt and chia seeds. As an effort to incorporate more fiber and nuts and seeds, I’ve added yogurt (both Siggi’s and Culina’s coconut yogurt) to mine and David’s breakfasts, topped with a hearty serving of chia seeds and Seven Sunday’s Rise and Shine mix.

    Currently Planning

First, my garden. Well, I actually need to be planning it but instead I’m buying one off plants that excite me and have no real plan yet. I need to work on that. I’m armed and ready with a few plant starts including tomatoes I got from a friend and pole beans, cucumbers, yellow squash, and watermelon I got from a nursery on Saturday.

Also planning SCOTLAND! We are taking our first European family trip in the beginning of June and we are really excited. We also are largely flying blind, as we tend to plan well in advance, and this came together in what feels like a very last minute fashion. We are keeping our expectations low and really just hoping to see some beautiful views, go on a few great hikes, and enjoy the experience of being in another country. If you have been and have any recommendations, please send them my way! We plan to rent a car and bounce around Edinburgh, Isle of Skye, and the national park area.

    Currently Drinking

Well, it was a Moscow Mule on Saturday and whew, it was stronger than I intended thanks to a heavy handed bartender (oh wait… that was me). It was good though! Other than that it’s been a lot of tea (I tend to alternate Earl Grey and green tea), LMNT (did you hear they will soon be in Target?!), 1/3 caffeine version of my favorite coffee, and Spindrifts.

    In the Market for

house stuff! My focus is all on house projects lately and I’m having so much fun with it. I think I’ve mentioned it, but we always knew our old home wasn’t one we’d be in long term so I never really took to personalizing it to our liking. I always kept in neutral because I knew we’d be selling, which was pretty ridiculous considering we still lived there for 14 (!) years. But that means I have a lot of pent up personalizing energy, and I’m really enjoying channeling that into our new home. I probably owe you an updated look at some on the rooms since we are now almost six months in, even though no space is “finished” and probably won’t be for a long while. But there are updates happening! IE:

    • We had wall mirrors installed in our workout room
    • I’ve ordered wallpaper for the powder room and laundry room
    • I planted ferns on our front porch yesterday (was super pleased with these Walmart planters)
    • Our new rug and living room chairs arrive today! I’m super excited and also super nervous since they are a bold choice for me- a mossy green velvet. I really want this house to reflect us, though, and I think I am going to love them.

    Currently Looking Forward to

There is a lot to look forward to but honestly I am really savoring the present right now. I’m feeling really content at the moment. I feel like a broken record but the year of selling and building and moving was a lot- a lot of stress, a lot of unknown, a lot of trusting the plan. And now we are here. And I’m really enjoying here: the house, yes, but also the community, the lifestyle, the stage we are in as a family. So while I’m grateful that there is a lot to look forward to, I’m really embracing right now and dragging my feet in hopes it stays this way a while.

And on that note, Hailey just wandered into the kitchen so it’s time to sign off, make breakfast, stick the chicken in the slow cooker, prep another bread machine sourdough loaf, and dive into our homeschool day. Wishing a wonderful Monday, full of productivity or peace or whatever it is you need most in this moment; thanks for stopping by!
