The Toronto Blue Jays placed Danny Jansen on the 10-day injured list Saturday after the catcher suffered a fractured right middle finger in Friday’s 13-9 win over the Colorado Rockies.

As expected, the team recalled catcher Tyler Heineman from triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding move.
Jansen took a ball off his right hand off a foul tip by Nolan Jones of the Rockies. He was replaced by Alejandro Kirk when his turn came up in the order in the seventh and was later diagnosed with a fractured right middle finger, per manager John Schneider. The fracture is near the knuckle.

“Unfortunate,” Schneider said after the game.
In the top of the sixth, Jansen hit his career-best 17th home run to give Toronto a 4-2 lead, before suffering the fracture. The Blue Jays ultimately won 13-9.
Speaking to the media before Saturday’s game, Schneider said the 28-year-old will stay with the team on their current road trip and that the plan is for him to meet with a specialist next week.

Jansen has been sidelined several times this year after being hit by pitches.
“One of those things as a catcher, it’s a pretty freak injury,” Schneider said. “It seems like those are kind of coming in bunches right now.”
Jansen is slashing .228/.312/.474 with 17 homers and 53 RBIs and has a number of clutch hits for the Blue Jays this season.
