The eighth series of the Stand Up to Charity edition of the baking show began on, March 16, with Tommy appearing on the show on Sunday, April 6.
Among the star-studded line-up are presenter Kate Garraway, broadcaster Roman Kemp, and Amelia Dimoldenberg of “Chicken Shop Date” fame.
Tommy isn’t the first (and likely won’t be the last) Irish star to enter the bake-off tent with a host of well-known Irish faces putting themselves in the hot seat over the years — and providing some iconic and memorable moments.
Martha Kearney (2013)

Irish-British journalist Martha Kearney appeared on the first celebrity spin-off of the show, “The Great Comic Relief Bake Off”.
The Dublin-born star was awarded the Star Baker accolade for her episode where she competed against presenter Claudia Winkleman, comedian Ed Byrne, and professional rower Helen Glover.
The group was tasked with baking chocolate biscuits; lemon meringue pie and Comic Relief birthday cake.
Aisling Bea (2018)

In 2018, Irish comedian and actor Aisling Bea appeared in the season finale of “Stand Up to Cancer Bake Off” and was tasked with baking muffins, custard pie and a rainbow dream cake.
The comic was up against Alan Carr, Kadeena Cox and Teri Hatcher with the American actress (Hatcher) coming out on top.
Viewers were obsessed with the funny Kildare woman, however, with her typical antics winning her a new cohort of fans.
Derry Girls (2019)
A host of holiday specials have aired since 2016, with one of the 2019 specials featuring the iconic cast of “Derry Girls”.
And what happens when you put an iconic group of people into the “Great British Bake Off” tent? Utter carnage!
Siobhan McSweeney, Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Dylan Llewellyn, Nicola Coughlan and Jamie-Lee O’Donnell took part in the New Year’s installment.
Ultimately, it was Saoirse who was awarded Star Baker on the day, but the group of five provided serious belly laughs and craic in the one-off special.
Nadine Coyle (2021)
In the fourth season of “Stand Up to Cancer”, the Irish were represented by Girls Aloud singer Nadine Coyle, with a host of clips from her time on the show still circulating on social media.
Going up against comic John Bishop, TV presenter and journalist Aneka Rice and wheelchair basketball player Ade Adiptan, the task was for the group to give their best attempts at choux buns, financiers and chocolate bucket list cake.
Viewers were obsessed with the Derry native’s accent with host Matt Lucas at one stage noting “she’s got quite a strong accent…”
Despite being perhaps one of the messiest contestants to ever enter the tent — getting the chocolate bucket list cake mixture everywhere and dropping the financiers on her way to the fridge — Nadine received high praise, particularly for her chocolate cake.
Nadine’s appearance on the show took place at the height of, fellow Girls Aloud star, Sarah Harding’s tough battle with breast cancer. Speaking to Matt Lucas at one stage, Nadine revealed she was on the show for Sarah.
“It’s terrifying, you look at the statistics and the more research there is and the more money and funding there is to do that, the better people’s odds are,” she said.
Laura Whitmore (2022)

Laura Whitmore.
The following year journalist turned TV presenter Laura Whitmore was in the tent. The Wicklow native tried her hand at fruit turnovers, chocolate fondants and meringue but was unsuccessful in becoming star baker — presenter Gareth Malone won that accolade.
Rapper Yung Filly and actress Ruby Wax completed the line-up for Laura’s episode of the show.
In the episode as part of the showstopper Embarrassing Moment Meringue, Laura revealed that she played the role of a donkey in a school nativity way back when and was mortified when she slipped off the stage in front of friends, teachers — and a jam-packed audience.
Annie Mac (2022)

DJ and broadcaster Annie Mac was also in the 2022 edition of “Stand Up to Cancer”, but was in a different episode to Laura.
Annie was up against musician Example, actor Matt Lucas and comedian Ed Gamble, with Example coming out on top.
The show focused on the group baking stained glass biscuits, lemon and pistachio biscotti and a novelty cake — with Annie cracking everyone up with the way in which she pronounced kneading. The DJ continuously said “needing” with presenter Noel Fielding calling her mispronunciation out on the show.
David O’Doherty (2024)
Last year, Irish musician David O’Doherty appeared on “Stand Up to Cancer”. David’s episode saw the contestants — which also featured “Strictly Come Dancing’s” Oti Mabuse; presenter Gabby Logan and comedian Suzi Ruffell — create arctic rolls, vegan iced rings and meringues.
David may well have jinxed himself on entering the tent as he declared that he didn’t want to be “the worst person who’s ever been on the show.”
It appeared David may have been gearing up for that award when his arctic rolls were deemed inedible and the vegan iced rings weren’t much better.
Fortunately, he managed to pull it out of the bag with the meringue which judge Paul Hollywood noted was “spot on.”
Dermot O’Leary (2024)

Also on last year’s edition of “Stand Up to Cancer” was “X Factor” presenter turned “This Morning” host Dermot O’Leary who was in the tent alongside broadcaster and author Greg James; comic and podcaster Fern Brady and Spice Girls’ Mel B.
The group was tasked with making iced buns, chocolate and raspberry roulade and biscuit portrait celebrity lookalike.
Dermot came out on top and at the time, said he was “thrilled.” The presenter admitted his money had been on Fern to take the Star Baker award.
“Great British Bake Off for Stand up to Cancer” airs on Sunday, at 7.40pm GMT on Channel 4.
