I mentioned last week that Thomas was sick, and it got even worse over the weekend. His fever hovered around 104° all day Friday, that night, and Saturday morning. It was honestly scary. It finally broke around noon on Saturday after he was absolutely drenched in sweat. He’s still not 100%, but so much better.
But then it hit me on Saturday night, and by 5am, I had a 104° fever, insane chills, and was sweating like crazy. I have a clogged duct, so I don’t know if it’s related to mastitis or the sickness. Either way, it’s miserable. The worst part is that Charles woke up with a fever today. Say a prayer for us!
Below are my go-to’s when sickness hits our house.
When Sickness Hits
Blueberry Pediatrics
I love, love, love having this subscription. Blueberry Pediatrics is a membership-based telemedicine service that provides 24/7 access to pediatricians for virtual consultations, prescriptions, and at-home diagnostic tools to quickly get help when you have concerns about your kiddos. Nothing replaces in-person care when necessary, but I swear the boys always get sick over the weekend or at night, and the after-hours nurse line can be SO slow (sometimes hours to get a call back).
I get a reply from a Blueberry pediatrician within 20 minutes, tops. They provide 24/7 service, and I’ve always been so impressed by their follow-up and how thorough they are. It’s a LOT cheaper than our co-pay, and they’ve saved me from going into the doctor’s office multiple times. They also advise when they think he should be evaluated in person. I can’t recommend it enough, especially if you have young kids when you often just want to chat with a doctor. I usually get the same 1-2 pediatricians assigned each time, which is great.
Boiron Oscillococcinum & ColdCalm + Boiron Chestal
At the first sign of sickness, I always reach for Boiron Oscillococcinum to help shorten the duration and lessen flu-like symptoms. Boiron ColdCalm is my go-to for congestion, sneezing, and sore throats, especially for kids, since the dissolvable tablets make it easy to take. The baby version is easy, too, since it’s a liquid in a little vial. And when a cough hits, Boiron Chestal is a must. It works with the body to loosen mucus and soothe throat irritation without drowsiness, making it a lifesaver for those lingering nighttime coughs. I love that all of these are homeopathic and free from artificial additives!
Frida Baby 3-in-1 Infrared Thermometer
This is the easiest thermometer I’ve found to use with kids, and I like that I can use it on the forehead, in the ear, or even touch-free.
Air Purifiers
We have both the AirDoctor and the Jaspr. When someone is sick, I move the Jaspr (because it’s bigger and clears the air faster than my AirDoctor) into whatever room they’re convalescing in (usually the bedroom or living room) and put the other one in Charles’ room to keep his air as clean as possible since sickness in little ones is usually even scarier than with big kids.
Children’s Motrin Dye-Free + Genexa Kids’ Acetaminophen
I usually let fevers run unless they get really high or the boys seem miserable. Then I reach for these…I like having both ibuprofen and acetaminophen on hand since they can be alternated for fever relief when necessary. I like that these options are dye-free.
Humidifier & diffusers
When congestion hits, a good humidifier at night is a lifesaver. This one is so easy to refill, and it’s enormous, so it doesn’t have to be refilled every four hours. It can also double as a diffuser with essential oils. I am not an essential oils person, and I don’t really enjoy the smell of them, but when someone has a cough, I diffuse Doterra Breathe, and it seems to help. This is the diffuser I have that I keep downstairs during the day.
Unscented Epsom Salt
When Thomas is sick, I put some Epsom salt in his bath (with cooler water if he’s running a fever, and I can get him to get in). It might be a placebo, but I think he feels better afterward.
ChappyWrap Blanket
Thomas wanted our ChappyWrap blanket all weekend while he wasn’t feeling well, and I don’t blame him. It’s the softest, coziest blanket, and we all love snuggling up in it when we’re under the weather. But the biggest reason I grab it during sickness is that it can easily be thrown in the wash on the extra hot sanitize cycle.
Oliveda I01 ORAC & Camu Camu Olive Leaf Concentrate
Oliveda’s I01 is a must-have in my daily wellness routine. It’s packed with antioxidants from olive leaf extract and vitamin C-rich camu camu to keep my immune system strong. There is even research that shows that it can deactivate flu viruses. I give a little to Charles and Thomas when they are sick, and I take it three times a day when there’s sickness in my house.

Green Compass CBD + Collagen CBG
I started taking CBD jellies for my stress and the lemon-lime collagen for my skin and joints (it has multiple sources of collagen to support both), but I make sure to take it when there is sickness in the house for the CBG aspect. Again, this might be a placebo, but some research shows CBD and CBG help support the immune system (they interact with the endocannabinoid system, which plays a role in immune regulation).
Force of Nature & Oveda spray
When sickness is in the house, I spray everything with Force of Nature to disinfect it without harsh chemicals. I like to use Oveda to spray bedding and pillows since it also kills germs but has a nicer scent. Read my Force of Nature review here.
Opening the windows
I always open the windows when someone is sick to let in fresh air, even if it’s cold, just for a little bit. It makes the whole house feel fresher.
Praying your house stays healthy this season!
