Girls Weekend in Boston Itinerary

As a friend said when I mentioned going on a girls trip to Boston, “every woman in this country needs a girls weekend right now.” I’m always a big advocate for getting away with your closest friends, and our most recent trip to Boston solidified why it’s so important. Getting that uninterrupted time with your best girlfriends where you can talk for hours, explore, eat great food, relax, and enjoy being together is good for the soul. This year my friend group chose Boston as our weekend destination because it has a little bit of everything. Great hotels, amazing, food, plenty to do, and an easy destination for everyone to get to. If you’re planning a girls weekend in Boston, this is the perfect 48-hour itinerary to make the most of your getaway.

    Where to Stay

    The Whitney Hotel

Honestly where do I begin? The Whitney Hotel has the absolute best location, a great restaurant and bar, cozy rooms, amazing service and it’s SO clean. I’ve stayed in many Boston hotels and this location was by far my favorite. We were able to walk everywhere with so many great places nearby including the spa (more on that below), Boston Common, Beacon Hill, Back Bay, restaurants, shopping, Newbury Street, and more.

Our rooms were cozy, clean, and incredibly comfortable. I had some of the best nights sleep in ages, seriously. The hotel has a great restaurant and bar, The Peregrine, where we enjoyed drinks and small bites before dinner. There’s a fire pit outside to enjoy, but it was pretty cold during our stay so we mostly enjoyed being cozy inside. The hotel is pet friendly and while we didn’t bring ours, we certainly loved seeing the cute pups around the property.

While we were there we actually saw two other groups of women that were staying at the property for girls weekends (of various age groups). If you’re looking to explore all Boston has to offer, The Whitney Hotel is the perfect place to call home during a girls weekend.

    Where to Eat

Let’s be real, we definitely chose Boston because of the amazing food options throughout the city. There are so many great places to choose from, but I’m going to share our favorites, from breakfast and juice bars to afternoon cocktails and dinner.

    Tatte Bakery and Cafe

You’ve probably heard of Tatte, they’re all over the city, but it’s a great place for breakfast and coffee. Their menu has a delicious variety from breakfast sandwiches and tartines to french toast and shakshuka. Try the black sesame latte and the avocado tartine.

    Life Alive Organic Cafe

If you’re craving a fresh pressed juice, smoothie or açaí bowls, Life Alive is the spot. They serve food too but we only came for the juice and it was so good. I had the Orange Blossom with carrot, apple, lemon, turmeric, ginger, and orange blossom water. Super refreshing and the perfect pick me up before our afternoon at the spa.

    Toscano

We stumbled into Toscano hoping for drinks and something light after our spa appointments. Luckily we got a high top table in the bar area and I am so glad we did because it was one of our favorites from the weekend. We shared some drinks, the cheese tasting and the most amazing salad with oyster mushrooms (it was a special, ask for it if you go). Our server was so friendly and it was honestly the perfect pre-dinner spot.

    Lolita

I always want to go our for Mexican food when I travel because it’s just so hard to find in Vermont. We had a dinner reservation at Lolita (highly recommend making a reservation) on our first night. I’ll be honest and maybe I’m aging myself here, it was a little loud. The food and drinks were good and overall it was a nice experience, but if you don’t like a loud atmosphere when you’re eating out keep that in mind. The hot queso dip and fresh guacamole is a must.

    Peregrine

The Peregrine is the restaurant at the Whitney Hotel and it was a great place for drinks and appetizers on our first night. The warm olives and cheese plate are a must. I had a great mocktail, the sparkling chili limeade, that was so refreshing and delicious.

    Sarma

Saving the best for last, Sarma is one of Boston’s most popular restaurants for a reason. Be warned, you need to make reservations ahead of time (they do have a bar that’s first come first served). They open their reservations 30 days in advance and I booked our table exactly 30 days ahead of time at 10am. Their menu is creative, flavorful and great for sharing. I’m still dreaming about the mocktail I had. Some menu favorites were the black sea cornbread, bang bang potatoes, brussels sprouts bravas, and the shishito peppers. The milk chocolate frozen yogurt and donuts for dessert were a major crowd pleaser.

    What to Do

Explore Back Bay, Beacon Hill and Shopping on Newbury Street

Another reason to love The Whitney Hotel, it’s within walking distance of Back Bay, Beacon Hill and Newbury Street. These are my favorite places to walk around and explore in Boston. Beacon Hill is one of the most picturesque areas of Boston. It’s where you’ll find the Boston Common (America’s oldest public park), Boston Public Gardens, and tons of great shopping and restaurants. Newbury Street has lots of boutiques to explore and there are great small shops and cafes throughout the area. There’s a bunch of cool antique and vintage shops near The Whitney on Charles Street.

    Spa Time at Bella Santé

I spent a lot of time researching where to go for spa treatments in Boston and landed on Bella Santé on Newbury Street. They were very accommodating and were able to fit us all in so we could enjoy treatments at the same time. Between the group we had a mix of massages, facials, and pedicures and everyone was super happy with their treatments. I had a facial and a pedicure which were both fantastic. The space itself is pretty small and the facilities are a little dated, but for the location and quality of the treatments I would definitely recommend, especially if you’re trying to go as a group.

Boston Public Garden and Boston Common

The Boston Public Garden and Boston Common are both a must. In the winter, you might find skaters on the frozen pond, and in the warmer months the various flowers and trees in full bloom are so beautiful. Don’t miss the iconic Make Way for Ducklings statue.

    Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum

If I had to pick one museum for your girls trip I’d recommend the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. The collection includes paintings, sculptures, books, and of course the incredible courtyard garden called Fenway Court, which was designed to resemble a 15th-century Venetian palace. The museum has an incredibly personal feel, as Isabell Stewart Gardner stated in her will that the collection remain unchanged. The museum is also offering a $10 million reward for information that leads to the recovery of 13 stolen works from a theft in the 1990s. During busy times of year it’s best to buy your tickets in advance as they can sell out.
